MOUNT OLIVE — Lisa Marie Pate and Jonathan Brock Gardner pledged their promises Oct. 2 at 5 p.m.
Dr. Dennis Atwood officiated at the double-ring ceremony at First Baptist Church.
Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Leland Kimble Pate of Fremont. She is the granddaughter of Marie Bass and the late Dick Bass of Eureka and Ladell Pate and the late Leland Pate of Fremont.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gardner of Dudley are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Gardner of Goldsboro and the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brock of Mount Olive.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a floor-length gown of organza and Schiffli embroidered lace over satin. The strapless bodice was embellished with beaded Schiffli lace motifs. The A-line floor-length skirt extended into a chapel train. Bridal buttons accented the back of the gown from the bodice to the hemline of the train. Schiffli embroidered lace motifs etched with pearls adorned the train. Scallops and lace bordered the hemline of the skirt of the train.
For her headpiece, she chose a layered veil of illusion with a hand-rolled edged that flowed from a wreath of pearls and crystals. She carried a nosegay of pink and white roses.
Nikki Foucht of Goldsboro was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Erin Fields and Shanna Newman of Pikeville and Chrissy Howell of Raleigh, friends of the bride.
Wayne Gardner was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Brandon Faucette of Goldsboro and Chris Wiley of Louisburg, friends of the groom, and Kris Pate of Pikeville, brother of the bride.
Honorary bridesmaids were Allison Newman and Lindsey Newman of Fremont, first cousins of the bride.
Haley Brown, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. Alec Brown, cousin of the bride, was ring bearer.
Alma Williams directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Jessica Pate. Ian Brown distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Kathryn Whitley-Jordan, organist, and Keri McCahan and Kimble Pate, vocalists.
After a wedding trip to Charleston, S.C., the couple is residing in Pikeville.
The bride is a 1998 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and a 2002 graduate of North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in English. She is employed as a sixth grade teacher at Wilson County Schools.
The groom graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 1998 and magna cum laude from Mount Olive College in 2002 with a bachelor of science degree in business management. He is employed as a social insurance specialist with the Social Security Administration.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception at the Wayne County Shrine Club.
On Oct. 1, the groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner at First Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Co-workers of the groom held a tool and lawn shower Sept. 30.
On Sept. 25, the bride’s mother held a bridesmaids’ luncheon at Billie’s on the Green.
Friends of the bride held a bachelorette party Sept. 25 at the home of Keri McCahan of Cary.
On Sept. 19, the groom’s aunts held a miscellaneous shower at the home of Marilyn Hollingsworth.
The bride’s family held a dinner Sept. 18 at Fremont Missionary Baptist Church.
On Sept. 16, co-workers of the bride held a pantry shower.
On Aug. 22, the bride’s family and friends held a bridal shower at Mt. Nelson Baptist Church of Eureka.
Deborah and Erin Fields held a pampered bride party Aug. 15 at the Fields home.
On July 16, Shanna Newman held a lingerie party at her home.
