Men's volleyball

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Bret Rutledge posted 17 kills as University of Mount Olive slipped past Lincoln Memorial University 25-22, 24-26, 23-25, 25-20, 15-11 in a non-conference men's volleyball match Sunday afternoon.

Rutledge secured the outcome with a kill on match point.

Brad Monaghan delivered a career-high 11 kills against LMU. Senior libero Josh Donahue recorded 17 digs, while setter Jeff Yasalonis dished out 28 assists.

The five-set road win was less than 24 hours after a three-set loss to No. 5-ranked Lewis (Ill.) University on Saturday evening.

Robert Poole emerged as the Trojans' top offensive performer with 10 kills. Yasalonis passed out 20 assists. Donahue notched seven digs.

The Flyers held UMO to a .170 hitting percentage.

Mount Olive (10-6 overall) returns home for a Conference Carolinas weekend series against in-state foes Belmont Abbey on Friday and Pfeifer U on Saturday.

Indoor track

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Six University of Mount Olive competitors earned NCAA provisional qualifying times and two broke school records during the Last Chance Meet hosted by George Mason University.

Bailee Henry, Meredith Lorient, Leah Hanle and Alexis McNeil set a new program record in the distance medley relay (DMR) with a time of 12 minutes, 19.11 seconds. Hanle emerged as a provisional qualifier in the mile run, while McNeil turned in a provisional-qualifying effort in the 60-meter dash (7.67 seconds).

Guillermo Rendon broke his own school record in the 60 dash with a time of 6.85 seconds. He earned provisional-qualifying status along with teammate Cedric Thomas, who a 6.9 in the 60 dash.

Jonathan Dahlke and Adam Craig each posted a provisional qualifying time in the 3,000 meters. Dahlke crossed the line in 8:11.23. Craig finished in 8:18.51.

The provisional qualifiers for the season-ending NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships will be announced today.

Women's tennis

CENTRAL, S.C. -- University of Mount Olive claimed a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Conference Carolinas foe North Greenville University on Sunday afternoon.

The Trojan women secured the outcome with straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 5 singles.

The comeback occurred after a 5-4 loss to Southern Wesleyan on Saturday. UMO got singles wins from Alejandra Hernandez and Mariana Gamboa.

SWU sealed the outcome a with three-set win at No. 4 singles.

Mount Olive is the guest of league rival Pfeiffer U on Tuesday.

Softball

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Anna Ingram provided two hits and scored a run as University of Mount Olive dropped a 7-4 decision to in-state foe Catawba on the final day of the Mid-South Classic.

The Trojans seized a 1-0 lead on Karen Foley's RBI in the top half of the first inning. Catawba (6-14) answered with a five-run outburst and maintained its advantage throughout the game.

Mount Olive (9-11 overall) opens Conference Carolinas play at home Saturday against Belmont Abbey. First pitch is 2 p.m. at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field.
