PRINCETON -- Jazmaine McCain registered 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Princeton varsity girls' basketball outfit rolled to a 45-17 triumph over Carolina 1-A foe Lakewood on Friday evening.
The victory moved PHS to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in league matters.
A mismatch from the outset, Princeton used a variety of defensive looks to hold the Leopards scoreless until the 4:07 mark of the second quarter. By that time, at least five different Lady Bulldogs had entered the game's official scorebook.
The hosts led 30-3 at the break, increased their margin to 33 after three quarters and suspended the attack over the final eight minutes, allowing reservists to claim valuable playing time.
Lakewood (2-7, 1-4) was led by junior forward Tamia Rich, who scored nine points and secured five rebounds. Kiarye Bailey had six points and three boards. Sallena Oates rounded out the Leopard effort with two points.
Princeton received 10 points from junior Emily Ricks. Jordan Benson chipped in seven points and six boards, while Madison Adkins made three triples en route to a 9-point evening.
Takiria Cummings had four points and five rebounds. Hayden Hinson and freshman Reanna Braswell managed two points apiece.
Head coach Paula Wooten was pleased with her team's complete performance.
"Sometimes, in a game like that... you kind of fall apart and just do whatever," Wooten said of the game's nature. "But our kids did a good job of running our offense, moving the ball and playing good defense."
Princeton resumes play next Friday at James Kenan.
