PIKEVILLE -- Ashley Darden scored a team-high 12 points as Charles B. Aycock defeated county and Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference rival Southern Wayne, 46-30, on Tuesday night.
The Golden Falcons (16-4 overall, 6-2 ECC) led by one point at halftime and eventually swept the regular-season series.
Aycock opened the third quarter with a defensive change, switching from a zone to a man-to-man scheme. The Saints (7-11, 2-5) managed just two points in the quarter and scored just 10 total points in the second half.
"We've been using (the man defense) more over the last four to five games," Golden Falcons head coach Roy Harrell said. "If you want to play deep into the playoffs, you have to play some man. Teams don't get to the playoffs if they can't shoot."
Nine different Aycock players scratched in the scoring column.
Zaria Atkins had a game-high 21 points for Southern Wayne, which plays host to D.H. Conley on Friday. Aycock entertains J.H. Rose.
