By the 15-minute mark, Wayne Country Day's starters had done plenty of damage against Northwood Temple.
They retired to the bench and made spot appearances throughout the second half. Regardless of the combinations, the Chargers -- mostly JV players at this points -- controlled possession and easily generated shots on goal.
Seven different players found the back of the net in a 9-0, mercy-rule triumph that ended with 13:56 remaining in the second half. Tony Townsend and sophomore forward Noah Adkins supplied two goals apiece for the Chargers, who logged their fourth shutout of the season in their last seven outings.
It was WCDS' seventh shutout overall.
"It was an enjoyment game for the lads today," Chargers head coach Steve Ellis said. "We got on the score sheet and put the game away early. I rotated a lot during the game, giving everybody time (on the pitch).
"Some of the players rotate in scored goals, so it was good for them to get that experience, and the have the encouragement and support from our regular starters."
Wayne Country Day struck quickly.
A shot inside the 6-yard box caught Northwood goalie Timmy Drake offguard and he attempted to cover the near post. Teammate Drew Noyes tried to clear the ball, but Townsend took it off of his foot and tucked it away for the 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later, Adkins punched in his first goal on an assist from senior Danny Lee. Freshman Hunter Bryson connected in the 10th minute on Charlie Roethling's assist.
Ellis began his substitution routine from that point.
Kris Cooley converted a penalty kick, sophomore Blaine Creger and Townsend helped the Chargers build a six-goal advantage by intermission.
Freshman James Thompson, Adkins and Jack Zhao each supplied a single goal in the second half.
WCDS owned advantages in shots (21-1) and corner kicks (4-1). Northwood's Drake recorded eight saves, while Chargers keeper Patrick Hall stopped the Eagles' lone shot.
The Chargers (10-4-1 overall) return to action today at Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference foe Freedom Christian.
"(A) tougher game tomorrow," Ellis said.
