Rosewood entered the Carolina 1-A Conference golf match at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Club with a slim lead in the season standings.

The Eagles took advantage of their home course and a scheduling quirk to break free from the pack on Monday. Nick Adams earned medalist honors with a round of 75 and led Rosewood to a 351 team total.

The six-team meet served as a home match for both Goldsboro and Rosewood, so the scores counted double in the team standings. Princeton finished second at 362. Goldsboro took third with a 366 and Spring Creek came in fourth at 390.

North Duplin (395) and Ayden-Grifton (452) rounded out the team scores.

"We have two conference matches left and now we have about a 40-stroke advantage," Rosewood head coach Daniel Baynes said. "I was really pleased with how we played today despite some cold and windy conditions."

Dylan Greene (91), Jeremy Mercer (91) and Andrew Henn (94) completed the Eagles' team total.

Matt Hall led Goldsboro with a round of 79. Carlin Thomas (85), Luke McAlduff (92) and Samuel Prarie (110) completed the Cougars' tally.

"Our guys have been really working hard on the fundamentals of golf," Goldsboro head coach Ray Lippert said. "I know they get bored at practice when I keep stressing the fundamentals, but it is really starting to pay off."

Kyle Stone led Spring Creek with an 80. Justin Price (97), Nathan Tanner (102) and Dwayne Brown (111) carded scores for the Gators.

Hunter Brock paced North Duplin with a round of 84.

Hugh Chapel emerged the front runner for Ayden-Grifton.

The next Carolina 1-A Conference meet is Apr. 30 at Southern Wayne Country Club.
