Dogs blank Gators

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Friday night marked the annual homecoming celebration at Spring Creek High School.

Princeton did all of the celebrating on the football field.

Johnny Frazier rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns and the Bulldogs earned a 39-0 victory over the Gators in the Carolina 1-A Conference opener for both teams.

"I am really proud of my guys for coming out and playing a complete game tonight," first-year Princeton head coach Derrick Minor said. "Our defense was awesome and once we got the offense going everything kind of came together."

The two teams struggled to move the football in the first quarter and each team punted twice as the clock rolled. Princeton finally got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when quarterback Michael Wooten broke free for a 15-yard scoring run. Ryne Woodard made the extra point and put the Bulldogs ahead 7-0.

On the next Princeton possession Wooten hit Kameron McDougald for a nine-yard scoring play. After a Spring Creek turnover, Frazier raced into the end zone from seven yards out and put the Bulldogs ahead 20-0 at the intermission.

"We could not get anything going offensively and it put a lot of pressure on our defense," Spring Creek head coach Aaron Sanders said. "When you do not do a good job of blocking at the point of attack there is no way to move the football."

Princeton broke the game open in the third quarter.

Frazier ran behind the right side of the line and rolled to a 36-yard touchdown. McDougald found paydirt on the Bulldogs next possession from 33-yards out.

"We ran a little single wing and it was effective," Minor said. "We are always looking to create favorable matchups and once we found a way to do that it really ignited the running game."

Kiadea Richardson capped the Princeton scoring with a 40-yard scamper in the fourth quarter.

Princeton (2-4 overall, 1-0 CC) ran for 264 yards as a team. Wooten added 46 yards passing.

Anthony Russo led the Spring Creek attack with13 carries for 42 yards. Devante Faison completed two passes, both the Jesus Briones, for 24 yards.

Spring Creek (0-6 overall, 0-1 CC) travels to Ayden-Grifton next week. Princeton plays host to North Duplin.
