Wayne Country Day wins pivotal tiebreakers

Unbeaten Wayne Country Day claimed three tiebreakers in singles play and captured a tense, non-conference victory over Wayne Christian on the Wayne Community College courts.
Fourth-seeded Meredith Roethling bounced back from a second-set loss to defeat the Eagles' Ally Willman 7-5, 3-6, 1-0. Sixth-seeded Margaux Pope turned back Wayne Christian's Carla Benton 7-6, 7-6.
Gianna Democko, Sarah Best and Abbey Pope also prevailed in singles for the Chargers. Democko-Best and Anna Allen-Eliza Eagles each triumphed in doubles.
Elizabeth Sutton collected Wayne Christian's lone singles point. The No. 2 tandem of Sutton-A. Willman prevailed in doubles.
The Chargers (3-0 overall) face Faith Christian of Rocky Mount today, while Wayne Christian (2-1) is the guest of Crossroads Christian.
