Rosewood looked to be in mid-season form.
Wayne Christian looked like a team seeing its first live action.
The end result was a 25-15, 29-27, 25-11 victory in Rosewood's favor on Monday afternoon.
The match was the seventh of the season for the visiting Eagles, who are a perennial power in the Carolina 1-A Conference, but marked the season opener for Wayne Christian.
"I know we did not win the match, but I was still very pleased with what I saw," Wayne Christian head coach Rick Moore said. "We had to change our rotations around a little bit and there are things we still need to correct, but overall I was proud of our effort."
Rosewood opened the game on point and grabbed an 18-13 advantage. Back-to-back kills by Ellen Morgan and Heather Lancaster put the first set away for the Eagles.
The second set was not so easy.
Wayne Christian got its hitters in rhythm and matched Rosewood at the net. Each team had multiple chances to end the set, but failed to put the deciding point on the board until a Wayne Christian error gave Rosewood a 29-27 triumph.
"I don't really know what to say about this match as a whole," Rosewood head coach Jennifer Cochran said. "We played well at times, but then the second set kind of got away from us a little bit. But we were able to hold it together and get a win."
Rosewood (5-2 overall) took care of business quickly in the third set.
Morgan paced the Eagles' offense with seven kills and three blocks. Anna Ingram added five kills and two blocks.
Katie Isenhower finished with four kills and two blocks for Wayne Christian. Kaley Wallace added five kills and a block in the defeat and Katie Caviness finished with two kills and two aces.
Wayne Christian (0-1) travels to Trinity today, while Rosewood plays host to county rival Southern Wayne.
