Wayne North falls to Rocky Mount

Some days nothing goes one team's way.

Wayne North experienced its night of unfortunate events Wednesday in a 13-1 loss to Rocky Mount on the Junior Legion baseball diamond.

North had multiple players leave the game due to injury, made four errors and only tallied one hit in the loss.

"There really isn't much to say tonight," Wayne North head coach Tyler Ham said. "Some nights it just is not your night."

Rocky Mount opened the scoring with an unearned run in the first inning and broke the game open in the second frame. A second Wayne North error allowed the lead-off man to reach base. Lynwood Jones belted a triple to make the game 2-0.

Will Dupree followed with an RBI double and Chase Root capped the outburst with a two-run home run.

Rocky Mount (14-3 overall) added six runs in the fourth inning when a pair of walks, a double by Jones and three straight singles each led to a run.

The 11-0 cushion was more than enough for Root, who kept Wayne North at bay until the bottom of the fifth inning. Lee Daniels led off the North half of the fifth with a walk. Andrew McKeel drew a free pass and Matt Lee reached on an error to load the bases.

Daniels scored on Ryan Warren's productive groundout to make the score 13-1.

"We only had three guys on the bench to start the game and by the end we had zero," Ham said. "Jeremy Lancaster is out with a back injury and didn't even suit up, Cameron Kornegay has appendicitis, Ryan Kelly bruised his knee in the first inning and Ryan Warren got sick in the third inning."

Tyler Warren suffered the loss on the mound for Wayne North, which fell to 10-5. Warren allowed eight runs over 31⁄3 innings, but only three of those runs were earned.

The two teams play tonight in Rocky Mount.
