Baseball
Southern Wayne 4, New Bern 3
* DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated New Bern 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Tyler Gainey delivered two hits including a home run and tallied three RBI in the win. Keith Jones, Ashton Cox, Colton Chrisman, Thomas Kelly and Jaime Dove each finished with one hit for the Saints.
Clayton Cashwell picked up the win on the pitcher's mound in relief. Cashwell tossed 11/3 innings and did not allow a hit.
Southern Wayne (9-4 overall) travels to North Lenoir on Tuesday.
South Johnston 12,
Eastern Wayne 8
* FOUR OAKS -- South Johnston scored six runs over the first two innings and held off Eastern Wayne 12-8 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference baseball action on Wednesday.
Ryan Faucette led the Warriors at the plate with four hits including a home run and four RBI. Wes Capps belted two home runs and also tallied four RBI. Tyler Huetter finished with two hits.
Hunter Barnett took the loss on the pitcher's mound. Barnett worked 11/3 innings and allowed five runs on six hits.
Eastern Wayne (8-4 overall, 6-1 ECC) is the guest of Triton on Tuesday.
Farmville Central 6, Rosewood 2
* Rosewood never got its bats going in a 6-2 loss to Farmville Central on Wednesday afternoon.
Will Winslow took the loss after 32/3 innings which included five runs on three hits. Ian Speight allowed one run in relief and recorded five strikeouts.
Rosewood (1-8 overall) plays host to Spring Creek tonight at 7 p.m.
Softball
C.B. Aycock 10, South Central 3
* PIKEVILLE -- Meredith Burroughs and Cierra Harris combined for a one-hitter inside the pitcher's circle, and Charles B. Aycock handed South Central a 10-3, non-conference loss Wednesday evening.
Burroughs tossed five innings of no-hit ball and fanned three Falcon batters. Harris permitted one hit in two innings of three-strikeout relief. It's the fifth straight one-hitter thrown by the Aycock pitching staff this season.
"That says a lot about our pitching," CBA head coach Brad Matthews said.
Reagan Herndon (three RBI) and left-side slap-hitter Misty Edwards (RBI) cranked out three hits apiece. Brooke Bell batted 2-for-4, while Conner Davis provided two hits and two RBI.
Katie Gay (RBI), Rachel Jordan (RBI), Burroughs (RBI) and catcher Ivy Hartzell each contributed one hit.
Aycock (10-2 overall) travels to Triton on Friday.
Girls' soccer
Eastern Wayne 4,
South Johnston 1
* FOUR OAKS -- Eastern Wayne scored three goals in the second half in a 4-1 win over South Johnston on the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference soccer scene Wednesday night.
Ann Reed Hulse led the Warriors with a hat trick (three goals). Megan Mozingo added one goal and two assists.
Eastern Wayne (6-4 overall, 6-2 ECC) visits Triton on April 19.
Track and field
C.B. Aycock races to win
* LaGRANGE -- Charles B. Aycock scored 74 team points and bested North Lenoir and Southern Wayne in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tri-meet on Wednesday afternoon.
Austin Snowden won the 300-meter hurdles and the 200 dash. Marvin Alexander prevailed in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. Cade Ivey won the 800 run.
Khaleil Owens captured the 400 run for the Golden Falcons.
Boys' tennis
C.B. Aycock 9, South Johnston 0
* FOUR OAKS -- Charles B. Aycock rolled through singles play and never looked back in a 9-0 rout of Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent South Johnston on Wednesday night.
Will Hoff, Michael Kearney, Addison Vail, Austin Walker, Chas Hooks and Sam Chastain each prevailed during single play.
The pairings of Patrick Dugom-Chastain, Hoff-Kearney and Vail-Walker each won in doubles action.
C.B. Aycock (13-1 overall, 8-1 ECC) faces Northern Nash on Monday.
Eastern Wayne 9, Wilson Fike 0
* State-ranked Eastern Wayne had no trouble taking out Wilson Fike 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
Chaz Fitpatrick, Russell Turner, Steven Taylor, Mitchell Kaspar, Sawyer Thompson and Cole Newsome each won their respective singles match for the Warriors.
The tandems of Rex Smith-Allan Niles, Fitzpatrick-Turner and Taylor-Newsome each won in doubles action.
Eastern Wayne (12-0 overall) visits Triton on Monday.
Southern Wayne 6, Cleveland 3
* CLAYTON -- Southern Wayne swept three critical doubles points and rallied for a 6-3 win over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Cleveland on Wednesday afternoon.
Brandon Outlaw, Alan Nunez and Chris Judy each won their respective singles match for the Saints.
The tandems of Sam Henderson-Outlaw, Andrew Medlin-Nunez and David Joyner-Judy each prevailed in doubles.
Southern Wayne (8-5 overall, 3-4 ECC) entertains Triton today.
JV sports
* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 11, Southern Wayne 1 (5 inn.) -- Ben Rouse (RBI), Tim Naughton (RBI), Ryan Davis (4 RBI) and Garrett Joyner (RBI) pounded out two hits apiece in the Golden Falcons' mercy-rule win. Logan Runyon, Noah West and Conner Crandall (RBI) each had one hit. Runyon went the distance on the mound, striking out six and permitting one run on three hits. Aycock improved to 9-1 overall.
Middle schools
* Softball: Princeton 4, Meadow 1 -- Kasey Johnson emerged the winning pitcher for Princeton with a 12-strikeout effort. Beth Braswell paced the Dawgs at the plate with three hits. Natalie Smith, Taylor Carroll, Lakyn Whitley and Nevada Johnson each had two hits. Princeton improved to 7-0 overall.
