Goldsboro proved it can play fast and furious or slow and under control.

Charles B. Aycock simply couldn't keep up.

The Cougars turned turnovers into transition opportunities and executed their half court offense with precision in a 79-53 victory on Tuesday night. It was Goldsboro's first win of the season.

Tierre McCullogh's 3-pointer ignited the Cougars' 7-0 run at the end of the first quarter as Goldsboro built a 19-12 lead.

Jamal George converted a three-point-play and Damarian Henderson knocked down a 3-pointer. Davion Newkirk's jump shot just before halftime pushed the lead to 46-30.

"Our best offense is our defense," Cougars' head coach Patrick Reynell said. "We still struggle on offense. When we do get a turnover we want to make sure that we're getting wide in our lanes and we're running."

The Golden Falcons continued to struggle with Goldsboro's press in the second half as turnovers began to pile up and the deficit swelled to 56-37.

"We made some mistakes with the basketball against a very talented and athletic team," Aycock head coach Steve Moats said. "We're not the type of team that is going to come back from that far behind. Our problem is we're young and we don't always play together."

Reynell used the second half as a teaching opportunity.

The third-year head coach substituted frequently as the Cougars worked on their offense and continued to build team chemistry. Henderson finished with a game-high 20 points. Quavius Holloman supplied 14 points and Octavius Alston had 12.

Michael Williams and Greg Williams scored nine points each for the Golden Falcons.

Goldsboro (1-3 overall) travels to North Lenoir tonight, while Aycock (0-5) plays host to Triton on Friday.
