ELIZABETH CITY -- Andrea Jones scored 19 points -- her fifth consecutive game of at least 19 points -- but a second-half spurt was the difference as Mount Olive had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 66-53 loss to Elizabeth City State in non-conference women's basketball on Saturday.
Jasmine McDonald recorded her third double-double in five games with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
After trailing by a field goal at halftime, Mount Olive (3-2) tied the game 32-32 on Alyssa Luebs' layup with 18:36 left in the contest. Elizabeth City State (4-3) then took the lead for good as Jasmine Whitehurst hit three three-pointers during a 13-3 run to give the Vikings a 45-35 lead with 12:02 remaining.
The Trojans got as close as six points after Jones' three-pointer with 5:52 left cut the margin to 55-49. But Mount Olive was limited to two field goals the rest of the way and was held scoreless over the final 3:54 of the game.
Mount Olive is off until December 12 when the Trojans play host to Saint Augustine's in non-conference action. Tip-off is 5 p.m. at Kornegay Arena.
