Girls' basketball
Grace of Raleigh 44, Wayne Christian 38
* Wayne Christian battled to the finish but could not find a way to get past Grace of Raleigh in a 44-38 defeat in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play Monday night at Clifford Gymnatorium.
Carly Hightower led the Eagles with 15 points and five rebounds. Courtney Barrow added 12 points and six boards. Katie Isenhower finished with seven points.
Wayne Christian travels to Trinity of Raleigh tonight.
Lejeune 41, Rosewood 31
* Hayley Mercer and Holly Heath pumped in seven points apiece in Rosewood's season-opening, 41-31 loss to Lejeune on Monday evening.
Mercer converted back-to-back steals into layups during a second-quarter run that trimmed the Ladypups' lead to 12-10. The visitors answered with a 12-1 surge that carried over into third quarter.
Rosewood closed the gap to 10, but could get no closer.
Lejeune junior point guard Chatori Major, who faced a box-and-one defense the entire first half, led all scorers with 15 points.
The teams combined for 74 turnovers.
Rosewood travels to Northern Carolina 2-A member North Johnston on Wednesday and plays host Tri-County 1-A Conference member Midway on Friday.
The games tip off at approximately 6 p.m.
Boys' basketball
Grace of Raleigh 64, Wayne Christian 43
* Wayne Christian failed to slow down the Grace of Raleigh offense in a 64-43 defeat in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play Monday evening.
Keerthi Boru led the victors with 29 points.
David Swets paced Wayne Christian with 14 points. Dylan Smith also reached double figures with 11 points.
Wayne Christian (1-4 overall) is the guest of Trinity of Raleigh tonight.
