Charles B. Aycock took some time to get its offense in gear on Tuesday afternoon.
Once the Golden Falcons got rolling, there was no stopping them.
Cheyenne Warrick scored four goals and C.B. Aycock bested archrival Eastern Wayne 6-0 on the pitch at the Little Big Horn. The victory left the Golden Falcons as the only undefeated team in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play this season.
"I was really pleased to see that we came out early and were able to set the tone," C.B. Aycock head coach Kevin Adkins said. "Our defense and midfield controlled the possession and we were able to create some good opportunities."
The Golden Falcons got on the board in the first half when Warrick found the mark following a defensive miscue by the Warriors.
Holding a 1-0 advantage at the intermission, the Golden Falcons turned up the pressure and got almost immediate results.
Madison Mercer collected a crossing pass from Warrick and buried a shot in the back of the net in the 50th minute. On the next Golden Falcon possession, Mercer raced behind the defense and made the score 3-0 with a well-placed shot.
"We had a bad stretch there defensively, but really it was the whole game," Eastern Wayne head coach Jorg Wagner said. "We did not communicate well enough and we certainly did not rotate well enough. We gave up too many easy chances."
Warrick jumped on a loose ball and scored her second goal in the 54th minute. A quick dribble between defenders and a hard shot hit the mark off of Warrick's foot in the 58th minute. She capped the scoring in the 61st minute by drilling a free kick into the top right corner of the net from 25 yards out.
Casey Scarboro tallied the shutout in goal for the Golden Falcons by making three saves.
C.B. Aycock (7-2 overall, 5-0 ECC) travels to Wilson Beddingfield today. Eastern Wayne (3-3, 3-1) visits Triton on Friday.
