Allison, EW defeat Rams

Attack early, often and with aggression.

Ryan Allison scored four times as Eastern Wayne unleashed a relentless offensive attack in an 8-1 victory over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference newcomer Cleveland on Monday evening.

Allison got on the Warriors on the scoreboard fewer than two minutes into the game. The senior scored again in the 18th minute on a header off Rafeal Guerra's corner kick. Allison's third goal in the 24th minute off Steven Taylor's goal gave Eastern Wayne a 3-0 lead.

"Ryan had one of his best games," said Warriors' head coach Jorg Wagner. "He was tracking the ball the whole game and available at the front."

Tyler Muehlenthaler's long-range goal in the 29th minute and Guerra's goal in the 37th minute extended the lead to 5-0. Eastern Wayne held a 15-1 edge in shots on goal while dominating possession in the first half.

"I thought we knocked the ball around really well," said Wagner. "We finally found some scoring. We've always had to rely on fortune or good luck to put the ball in the net. Today we just created enough chances."

Allison scored his fourth goal in the 42nd minute off Jason Horne's assist. He just missed scoring a fifth goal in the 63rd minute when his shot hit the post.

Jae Kim and Horne added goals for the Warriors. Eastern Wayne finished with a 26-5 advantage in shots on goal.

"I really hope we can build on this," said Wagner. "The loss to North Lenoir was a real setback for us in the conference standings. We now have to fight to hold on to third place. Hopefully we will play well the rest of the regular season and in the conference tournament. This gives me some hope that we're finding our rhythm a little bit."

Jesse Aguinaga scored a late goal for the Rams.

The Warriors (4-6 overall, 4-3 ECC) entertain Southern Wayne on Oct. 11.
