Eagles shut down Jaguars

With every shot that sailed wide and every pass that was off the mark, the frustration mounted for Rosewood.

The Eagles struggled to finish scoring opportunities for the second consecutive night, but found enough offense in a 2-0 victory over Farmville Central at Branch Pope Field on Wednesday evening.

The Jaguars played with nine players in the first half due to suspensions and Rosewood had difficulty taking advantage.

Antonio Henriques' shot was saved by Farmville Central keeper Bernabe Garcia in the eighth minute. The Eagles couldn't convert on corner kicks in the eighth and ninth minutes.

Garcia gobbled up Jonathan Franks' shot off Henriques' cross in the 21st minute. Rosewood had another corner kick go by the wayside a few seconds later.

Henriques got the Eagles on the scoreboard off Bret Robinson's assist in the 35th minute.

"This is the second straight night we've had opportunities and chances, and we just haven't finished well," said Rosewood head coach Daniel Mitchell. "It's just one of those things where we played well, but we just couldn't find the back of the net."

Garcia turned away Franks from point-blank range in the 46th minute. Henriques' shot in the 47th minute rolled wide of the goal. Garcia charged out of the goal and slid to deflect Franks' shot in the 60th minute.

Franks' goal in the 63rd minute extended Rosewood's lead to 2-0.

Robinson's cross in the 72nd minute rolled past an open goal. Bernabe saved Henriques' shot in the 72nd minute. Robinson's free kick from the top of the 18-yard box in the 73rd minute sailed wide.

Franks couldn't finish a cross from Henriques in the 74th minute and his shot in the 75th minute was tipped away by Garcia.

The Eagles had another corner kick opportunity wasted in the 76th minute and Zach Behrend's free kick in the 80th minute sailed over the goal.

Rosewood finished with a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal.

"In the second half I thought we played much better than we did in the first half," said Mitchell. "We've just got to keep doing what we're doing and the goals will come. I thought in the second half we picked up our level of play and had all kinds of opportunities.

"We've just got to get better at being able at putting those away."

Jacquez Raynor earned his second consecutive shutout in goal with three saves.

The Eagles (3-3-0) start Carolina 1-A Conference play at Princeton on Monday.
