PIKEVILLE -- The Goldsboro game plan was simple: run Andre Montgomery left, right and up the middle.

The Cougars' running back executed almost flawlessly and the team parlayed Montgomery's 177-yard night into a resounding 35-13, non-conference win over county rival C.B. Aycock.

Coming off back-to-back losses to open the season, Goldsboro controlled the line of scrimmage and consistently moved the ball on the ground.

"We had to get back to what we do well and find an identity," said Cougars head coach Eric Reid. "Tonight our guys came out with the right mindset and they played like they are capable."

Goldsboro opened the scoring in the first quarter when Freddy Jones broke loose for an eight-yard scoring run. Alan Odom tacked on the extra point and pushed the visitors out to a 7-0 advantage.

Both teams were able to move the ball during the second quarter, but neither could find the end zone. C.B. Aycock had two drives end in turnovers and Goldsboro stalled a lengthy drive with a bad snap on a potential field goal.

The Cougars made a statement with the opening drive of the second half.

Montgomery broke a 45-yard run that pushed the ball inside the Golden Falcons' 10-yard line. Two plays later, Montgomery toted the ball six yards to pay dirt.

"They just flat out-physicalled us tonight, especially in the second half," said C.B. Aycock head coach Randy Pinkowski. "Our guys were in position to make plays, but there is a big difference between being in position and actually making a tackle."

On the Cougars' next possession, Jones pushed the visitors' advantage to 21-0 with a 14-yard scoring run.

C.B. Aycock got on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter when Marquis Bryant plunged into the end zone on a 1-yard run. The excitement was short lived as Corteiz Sprangle found Montgomery streaking down the sideline for a 60-yard touchdown pass that put the game on ice.

Already up 28-6 the Cougars added a final touchdown on a 21-yard run by Darius Curry.

Tyler Farmer led the Golden Falcons down the field for a late score to cap the home team's tally. Farmer completed 10 passes for 109 yards on the night. Bryant led the team with 78 yards rushing.

Sprangle led the Cougars with 154 yards through the air on five completions.

"Not having a game last week may have turned out to be a blessing," said Reid. "We spent almost two weeks getting ourselves back to what we do best."

Goldsboro (1-2 overall) travels to Washington on Friday. C.B. Aycock (1-3) is the guest of Wilson Fike.
