Zach Behrend provided a goal and an assist as Rosewood battled to a 2-2 draw against Farmville Central on Thursday afternoon.

The Eagles trailed 2-1 at halftime.

Scott Pate also provided a goal for Rosewood.

The Eagles (1-3-1 overall) visit Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday.

Warriors tied

KENLY -- Eastern Wayne and perennial power North Johnston worked to a 3-3 deadlock on Thursday evening.

Details were not available at press time.

The Warriors (1-3-1 overall) travel to Fike on Tuesday.

Volleyball

WCDS rallies

KINSTON -- Wayne Country Day rallied from a 13-5 deficit in the fifth set before claiming a 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 18-25, 16-14 triumph over Parrott Academy on Thursday.

Kim Martell finished with 18 kills, five service aces and three blocks for the Chargers. Hannah Pearson provided a career-high 12 kills to go along with two blocks.

Sterling Coggins handed out a career-high 20 assists, served four aces and three kills. Edie Hooks added six assists. Caraleigh Mewborn had four kills, three aces and two digs.

Wayne Country Day (2-2 overall) visits Goldsboro on Tuesday.

Warriors tag Gators

Eastern Wayne completed a two-game, non-conference season sweep of Spring Creek with a 25-22, 25-17, 19-25, 25-22 victory in New Hope on Thursday.

Amythest McPhail recorded five kills. Carrisa Turner had four assists for the Warriors. Emily Sparks provided three kills.

Stacie Salter finished with six digs for the Gators. Janna Price supplied three aces, three digs and two assists. Lucy Avila had three assists, three digs and an ace.

Eastern Wayne (2-6 overall) visits New Bern on Tuesday, while Spring Creek (0-5) begins Carolina 1-A Conference play at Princeton on Sept. 15.

Demons haunt Cougars

Goldsboro suffered a 25-9, 25-13, 25-11 loss to Wilson Fike on Thursday.

The Cougars (1-7 overall) entertain Wayne Country Day on Tuesday.

Tennis

Saints cage Panthers

Southern Wayne recorded a 7-2 non-conference victory over North Johnston on Thursday.

Morgan Roberts, Jessica Best, Michala Best, Taylor Parker and Mollieanne Kennedy were all singles winners for the Saints.

The teams of Jessica Best-Parker and Michala Best-Kennedy were also victorious.

Southern Wayne opens its Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference season at home Tuesday against league newcomer Triton.

Rams dominate

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central strolled past Eastern Plains 2-A Conference rival SouthWest Edgecombe 9-0 on Thursday afternoon.

Elizabeth McLawhorn, Samantha Taylor, Jessica Gray, Abby Sugg, Abbey Dail and Lauren Carraway each picked up a singles victory.

Carraway-McLawhorn, Hayes Lovett-Brittany Colie and Taylor-Sugg were winners in doubles play.

"Our consistency continues to improve and we are starting to move better in doubles," said Rams head coach Donald Clark."

Greene Central (5-4 overall, 4-0 EPC) visits Farmville Central on Tuesday.

Golf

Simmons qualifies

Tara Simmons, a freshman at Charles B. Aycock, has qualified to participate in the Joe Cheves Junior Invitational.

Simmons won the Tarheel Youth Golf Association Tour Championship and earned a berth in the two-day event, which will be played on the 1929 Donald Ross-designed Mimosa Hills course.

Lane Tree LGA

Barbara Hill emerged the game-of-the-week and low putt champion during weekly tournament action on the Lane Tree Golf Club links.

Libby Newsome and Linda Hilburn shared low putts.

Walnut Creek LGA

Hiromi Sueki claimed play-of-the-day honors during weekly tournament play at Walnut Creek Country Club.

Novella Zambelli and Mary Morris won low gross and low net, respectively, in first flight. Charlotte Campbell and Linda Cannon tied for low gross in second flight, while Pete Reaves seized low net.

Betty Holloway claimed low putts for the field.

JV sports

* Volleyball: Eastern Wayne d. Spring Creek 25-21, 25-12 -- Stephanie Smith finished with two kills for the Warriors (3-5 overall). Janna Price tallied four service aces and two assists for the Gators.

* Volleyball: Wilson Fike d. Goldsboro 25-10, 25-22 -- The Cougars fell to 0-6 overall this season.

* Soccer: Eastern Wayne d. North Johnston 4-2 -- Steven Taylor, Kyle Sasser, Jae Kim and Tyler Muehlenthaler each scored for the Warriors. Muehlenthaler also recorded an assist. Eastern Wayne (1-1-2 overall) visits Wilson Fike on Tuesday.
