Golden Falcons strugle versus Hunt

PIKEVILLE -- A day after witnessing his team's best practice of the season Charles B. Aycock head coach Davis Harris was nearly speechless Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons struggled to return serves, lacked communication in their passing and couldn't convert kill opportunities in a 25-9, 25-9, 25-9 loss to Wilson Hunt.

A pair of kills from Lizzie Madden and seven Aycock unforced errors helped the Warriors race out to an 11-2 lead in the opening set.

The Golden Falcons recorded just one kill in the first set as more often than not shots sailed wide or into the net. Aycock didn't get closer than nine points in the remainder of set one.

"We had the best practice of the year (on Wednesday)," said Harris. "It was just a snowball effect. It was ugly. I don't know what to say. I don't know if we're too worried about making the perfect play."

Aycock trailed only 8-6 early in set two before Hunt reeled off 17 of the next 20 points to close out the game. The Warriors' Roslyn Nixon tallied three service aces during that stretch and Kristen Childers added an ace and a kill.

The Golden Falcons claimed the opening point of set three but Hunt answered with 10 unanswered points. Amber Parrish recorded four aces in the midst of the 10-0 run.

Four more aces and a kill allowed the Warriors to build a 20-4 cushion on its way to finishing off Aycock.

"I don't know what the difference is in one day when you're passing the way we were on Wednesday, and you turn around today and come out here and can't pass the ball," said Harris. "I'm just at a loss for words except for ugly and embarrassed."

The Golden Falcons (1-5 overall) visit Wilson Fike next Wednesday.
