Golden Falcons soar past Eagles

PIKEVILLE -- Victorious in their respective season-opening games, county foes Charles B. Aycock and Rosewood renewed their rivalry on a soggy Hardy Talton Stadium turf Friday evening.

But the wet track didn't ground the Falcons' attack.

Aycock rushed for 491 yards as a team in a 61-6 win. The rushing total, points and margin of victory are all program highs during Randy Pinkowski's tenure as head coach.

"I think we were a little too much off a physical mismatch for Rosewood tonight," said Pinkowski. "I was happy with our guys' effort. I don't think they took anything for granted and they played hard."

The Golden Falcons jumped in front on the second play from scrimmage.

Marcus Cobb took a pitch, dashed around the right end and raced 34 yards into the end zone. Cobb added a second touchdown midway through the first quarter on a one-yard plunge. Tyler Farmer completed a pass to Tyheim Pitt for the two-point conversion and pushed C.B. Aycock ahead 14-0.

With three minutes to play in the opening period, Marquis Bryant darted for a 52-yard touchdown run. The Golden Falcons made it 28-0 two minutes later when Deven Sanders fumbled forward into the end zone and the ball was recovered by Craig Murdock.

"That first quarter was pretty tough for us defensively," said Eagles head coach Robert Britt. "We had so many guys out of position and when the other team is bigger and faster, you can't make up for being out of position."

Rosewood delivered an offensive highlight early in the second quarter.

Taylor McGill dropped back and found tight end Will Beasley streaking across the middle of the field for a 52-yard scoring strike.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Golden Falcons' rushing attack never slowed down. Two additional rushing touchdowns pushed the score to 42-6 by halftime.

The second half was more of the same as C.B. Aycock racked up yards and rotated running backs. Nine different players toted the ball for the Golden Falcons.

Three additional rushing touchdowns in the second half finalized the 61-6 score.

"I did not want the final score to end up the way it did, but we had to get our guys some work," said Pinkowski. "Our line did a nice job, and our backs kept their heads up and made some nice cuts."

Cobb led the C.B. Aycock effort with 177 yards and four touchdowns. Antonio Applewhite added 106 yards and two scores on just five carries.

Kevin Lewis took on the workhorse role for the Eagles with 20 carries for 48 yards.

"I wasn't really disappointed with the offense tonight because I saw some things that we did pretty well," said Britt. "We just have to look at the tape and go play-by-play to see what we can improve, primarily on defense."

Rosewood (1-1 overall) opens the home portion of its schedule Friday against Hobbton. Aycock (2-0) travels to Greene Central.
