Wayne Country Day scored four goals in a span of 20 minutes and picked up a 4-0, non-conference win at county rival Wayne Christian on Monday afternoon.

The Chargers dominated possession throughout the first half, but couldn't convert on three corner kicks in the first 13 minutes.

Hil Tanner's direct kick from the top of the 18-yard box in the 14th minute found Tyson Pearson streaking toward the goal. Pearson headed in Tanner's pass for a 1-0 lead.

Pearson's shot from the top of the 18-yard box beat Eagles keeper Chase King to give Wayne Country Day a 2-0 lead in the 27th minutes.

"In the first half we became sluggish," said Chargers head coach Michael Taylor. "We had to regroup. We were working our triangles. Tyson had a good game distributing the ball well and Cameron Ford had a very good game at center midfield."

Two minutes later Cameron Ford headed a crossing pass into the 18-yard box past King to extend the lead to 3-0.

Tucker Pearson capped the scoring in the 35th minute after winning a loose ball away from four Wayne Christian defenders and sticking it in the back of the net. Wayne Country Day finished with a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal in the first half.

"I've got a young team this year," said Eagles head coach Daryl Anderson. "I have a lot of kids that are new soccer. You could see it on the field against a top-quality team. In the first half I changed some positions around and when I did it fell apart."

Each team earned a corner kick in the second half, but failed to capitalize. The Chargers held a 6-2 edge in shots on goal in the final 40 minutes.

"When my defense had to work today, they did work," said Taylor. "Jay Grisette and Blake Marchese did a very good job in the back. They're seniors and they know how to play the game, and they know how to direct the younger players."

Wayne Country Day (3-0-0 overall) visits Cary Academy on Thursday, while Wayne Christian (2-1-0) entertains Grace Christian-Raleigh the same afternoon.
