PIKEVILLE -- With temperatures pushing triple digits Charles B. Aycock heated up its bats on Saturday afternoon.
Aycock's junior legion scored 24 runs and pounded out 25 hits while sweeping a double header from West Craven.
C.B. Aycock won game one 10-0 and captured game two 13-0 with each victory coming in 4 1/2 innings.
In the opener, Aycock sent 13 batters to the plate in the home half of the first inning and scored eight runs on seven hits and three West Craven errors. The outburst was highlighted by Tyler Ruffin's three-run homer and Mick Walker's two-run blast.
Aycock scored single runs in the second and third innings. Jordan Quinn pitched five scoreless innings to earn the win on the mound. Travis Musselman added three hits and an RBI and Jeff Carmel provided two hits including a solo homer.
Fifteen Aycock batters went to the plate in the bottom of the second inning in game two as eight hits and two West Craven errors led to 11 runs. Justin Barber's two-run single in the bottom of the fourth capped the scoring.
Barber finished with three hits and three RBI. Aaron Champion and Christian Pate each had two hits and an RBI.
Aycock starting pitcher Collin DuBose tossed two scoreless innings and struck out three to earn the win.
Aycock (13-2 overall) hosts Wilson at 7 p.m. on Monday.
Cary Bulls 9-5
Wayne South 1-4
DUDLEY -- Wayne South could not solve Cary batters and fell in both games of a double-header on Saturday.
In game one, the visitors jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Four Cary pitchers combined to scatter seven hits.
Zach Grantham led Wayne South with three hits including a double. Kevin Wise added an RBI single in three trips to the plate.
In game two, Wayne South found its offense but could not hold off the hot Cary offense.
Tyler Gainey led Wayne South with an RBI double. Ashton Cox added three hits including an RBI single.
Wayne South (7-8 overall) will host Rocky Mount on Tuesday night.
