PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock survived Eastern Wayne 6-3 and repeated as the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference softball champion Tuesday evening.

The Golden Falcons (19-1 overall, 9-0 ECC) seized the No. 1 seed for the season-ending conference tournament and the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.

Anna Sullivan (RBI) and Cynthia Burroughs (RBI) both had two hits for the Golden Falcons. Torie Benton added a two-run home run. Rachel Jordan (RBI) and Brooke Bell each contributed a hit.

Caitlin Turner supplied two hits for the Warriors. Lindsey Frederick (RBI), Casey Mitchell and Sedonia Scott all had a hit.

Autumn Pittman recorded the win on the mound while tossing four scoreless innings. Lani Fricks took the loss for Eastern Wayne.

Aycock visits Northern Nash today, while the Warriors (7-12, 2-7) entertain Kinston on Friday.

Hawks pound Vikings

LaGRANGE -- Kristen Davenport went 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI as North Lenoir routed Eastern Plains 2-A foe Tarboro 17-2 on Tuesday.

Kendale Letchworth supplied three hits and four RBI and Amber Best (two RBI) and Mandy Stallings each added two hits.

Aaryn Deal earned the win on the mound and had six strikeouts while allowing three hits and one walk.

The Hawks (11-6, 5-2 EPC) visit Spring Creek today.

Faith victorious

Faith Christian defeated Trinity Christian of Greenville 10-8 on Tuesday.

Christina Powell and Alyssa Hill each had two hits for the Conquerors.

Jennifer Christopher earned the win on the mound.

Faith begins play in the N.C. Christian Schools Athletic Association 2-A state playoffs next week.

WCS routs RMA

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Christian collected 17 hits and stomped Rocky Mount Academy 15-0 in four innings on Tuesday.

Carly Hightower had three hits for the Eagles including two doubles and an inside the park home run. Sarah McCollum provided four hits and Reagan Hinton and Kayla Kennedy both had three hits.

Allyson Newsome recorded the win on the mound while allowing one hit with six strikeouts and two walks.

Wayne Christian (5-4 overall) plays host to Wilson Christian on Friday.

Eagles outlast Panthers

Kayla Ormond provided a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh as Rosewood outlasted visiting North Johnston 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Jennifer Hall reached on an error in the seventh inning and advanced on a passed ball before Ormond delivered the game-winning hit.

Haile Meadows picked up the win on the mound allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out seven in a complete game effort.

Rosewood (8-4 overall, 3-2 Carolina) visits North Johnston on Thursday.

GC cruises

Greene Central defeated Goldsboro 15-0 on Tuesday.

Shanna Parker, Ashley Page and Samantha Taylor all collected three hits for the Rams. Ballie Webb earned the win on the mound.

The Rams visit Tarboro on Thursday.

PHS defeats ND

CALYPSO -- Princeton downed Carolina 1-A Conference foe North Duplin 7-2 on Tuesday evening.

Rebecca Harlan provided three hits for the Bulldogs. Amber Wood, Traci Bridgers, Ashley Braswell and Danielle Mitchell each had one hit.

Amber Wood earned the win on the mound.

Tearra Ammons, Alonna Pate, Caitlin Davis, Angelica Favela (two RBI), Lacy Jackson and Hanna Brock each collected one hit for the Rebels.

Ansley Hill took the loss on the mound.

Princeton (9-5, 5-1 Carolina) travels to North Johnston on Friday while North Duplin (5-10, 2-4) goes to Ayden-Grifton.

Rams roll over Cougars

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central roughed up Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opponent Goldsboro 22-4 on Tuesday.

Alex Brann went 3-for-4 for the Rams and Stephen McDonald (two RBI), David Stallings (three RBI) and Wes Sowers (RBI) each contributed two hits.

Justin Everett earned the win on the mound.

Greene Central (12-8 overall, 5-2 EPC) plays host to Tarboro on Thursday.

NL prevails

TARBORO -- North Lenoir earned a 15-6 decision over Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opponent Tarboro on Tuesday.

Najee Jackson collected three hits for the Hawks. Will Sutton (three RBI), Dejuan Gray and Benji Harris each contributed two hits. Mike Wetherington added a grand slam and five RBI.

Wetherington tossed a complete game to record the win on the mound.

North Lenoir (12-6 overall, 5-2 EPC) entertains North Pitt on Friday.

Gators edge Chargers

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek pounded out a season-high 15 hits and slipped past Ayden-Grifton 8-7 in Carolina 1-A Conference play Tuesday night.

Steven Best and Duane Gurganus both had three hits for the Gators. Corey Howell, Lucas Potter, Paul Hayes and Dontay Boseman each had two hits.

Gurganus (4-2) picked up the win on the mound.

Spring Creek (9-9, 2-5 CC) visits Rosewood on Friday.

Warriors down Saints

DUDLEY -- Eight walks and two hit batsmen came back to haunt Southern Wayne in a 5-0 loss to Wilson Hunt on Tuesday.

The Saints recorded just five hits. Tyler Edwards, Zach Grantham, Kevin Wise, Michael Douglas and Scott Holloman each had one hit.

Raymond Valazquez took the loss on the mound allowing two earned runs with three walks, two hit batters and a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Southern Wayne (11-12 overall, 5-4 ECC) travels to C.B. Aycock on Thursday.

Bulldogs nip Rebels

CALYPSO -- Princeton took advantage of 10 North Duplin errors and earned a 10-5 road win in Carolina 1-A Conference play Tuesday night.

Adam Peedin contributed four hits and three RBI for the Bulldogs. Patrick Jacobs added two hits.

Matt Leverette earned the win on the mound allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts over five innings of work.

James Kornegay went 1-for-1 for the Rebels with a home run and three RBI. Brian Chase took the loss on the mound.

North Duplin (5-13 overall, 1-6 Carolina) visits Ayden-Grifton on Friday while Princeton (9-11, 3-4) travels to North Johnston.

Chargers bounce back

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Country Day snapped a four-game losing streak with a 10-2 win in four innings at Rocky Mount Prep on Tuesday.

Cole Davis and Cameron Ford each supplied a double, a home run and two RBI for the Chargers. Jack Scott added two hits and two RBI and Stoan Stewart had two hits and an RBI. Dare Uzzell had a hit and an RBI.

Cody Neal earned the win on the mound pitching all four innings allowing two earned runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

Wayne Country Day (6-9, 1-4 CPIC) concludes its regular season on Friday when it plays host to Greenfield.

Track

Gators finish 3rd

KENLY -- Spring Creek compiled 106 points and finished third behind Ayden-Grifton and Princeton at the Carolina 1-A Conference championships on Tuesday.

Richelle Butler earned a first-place finish in the shot put for the Gators and Spring Creek's 800-meter relay team also earned a first-place finish.

Melanique DeVeaux captured first place in the high jump and the Gators 400- meter relay team finished first as well.

Tennis

WCS tops Trinity

Wayne Christian earned a 6-3 win over Carolina Christian 1-A Conference foe Trinity of Durham on Tuesday.

Singles winners for the Eagles were Taylor Gray, Christopher Easom, Daniel Glover and Woody Sasser.

The doubles teams of Gray-Easom and Glover-Sasser were also victorious.

Wayne Christian (10-1 overall) visits Fayetteville Christian on Friday.

WCDS falls

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Country Day suffered a 9-0 loss at Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Tuesday.

The Chargers (2-8 overall) travel to Greenfield on Thursday.

Golf

Walnut Creek LGA

Evelyn Rose won the Walnut Creek Cup and Linda Cannon finished as the runner-up.

Dot Julian took home play of the day honors and Jewel Ivey captured low gross in the first flight. Faye Franklin recorded the low net.

Linda Cannon earned low gross in the second flight and Betty Edwards had low net. Novella Zambelli claimed low putts.
