WINGATE -- Riley Boyette and Scott Woodard finished among the top-10 leaders and Mount Olive recorded a third-place effort after the opening round of the J. Ralph Hargett Invitational hosted by Wingate University.
Boyette carded an 18-hole round of 1-over par 73 and entered today's competition tied for fourth overall. Woodard recorded a 35 on the front nine, but ended up at 3-over par 75 once he completed the back side.
Pete Skirpstas concluded the day tied for 15th. Teammates Fabrizio Ceppi and Ryan Campbell are tied for 35th.
The Trojans fired a four-player total of 306.
On the women's side in the same tournament, Mount Olive's Kristen Moberg is tied for 13th overall after posting an 82. Teammates Valentina Urquiola and Tegan Skirpstas each carded an 85 and are tied for 22nd.
Deborah Woodrum is 54th and Lindsay Becker is 61st.
The Trojans finished with a team score of 348 and are 12 strokes behind fifth-place Catawba.
The invitational concludes today.
Tennis
MOUNT OLIVE -- Division I member Delaware University swept the Mount Olive College men's and women's tennis teams by a 9-0 score on the Walker Tennis Complex courts Monday afternoon.
The No. 32-ranked Trojan men fell to 4-11 overall, while the Trojan women dipped to 5-7 against the unbeaten Blue Hens.
MOC's top tandem of Jessica Souza-Carol Aro fell 8-6 in a pro-set action against Delaware's Elena Berry-JoJo Gruber.
