C.B. Aycock collects eight extra-base hits against Dawgs

PIKEVILLE -- The offensive outburst continues for Charles B. Aycock.

The Golden Falcons pounded out eight extra-base hits and dealt Princeton an 11-5 defeat on Friday afternoon. It was the third game in three days for each team.

"We started a sophomore and came in with a freshman," said Princeton head coach Bruce Proctor. "I guess the bright side of things is that we have gotten a lot of different guys some innings on the mound."

The game started positively for the Dawgs as Benton Myers scored a first-inning run on Kameron Harrison's RBI single. Will Edgerton answered for the Golden Falcons in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run.

C.B. Aycock (2-1) added three runs in the second inning when Anderson Barnes reached on an error and Dillon Barfield doubled him home. Tyler Farmer drew a walk and Connor Narron drove in a pair of runs with a double into the left center-field gap.

"I thought we came out and played hard from the beginning tonight," said Golden Falcons head coach Charles Davis. "We had a good approach early and we pushed a couple runs across."

Princeton countered with three third-inning runs.

Luke Mitchell singled, Phillip Mitchell drew a walk and Adam Peedin reached on a fielder's choice. Myers drove in a run after being hit by a pitch. Sean Carpenter found the same fate as a pitch glanced off his arm.

With the score tied 4-4, the Golden Falcons got a big boost from the bottom of their order in the bottom of the third. Adron Hollowell singled, Nick McGee doubled and Barnes was hit by a pitch. Barfield forced in a run by drawing a walk and was followed by the game's defining at-bat.

Number nine hitter Tyler Farmer worked the count into his favor and drove a deep fly ball over the center-field fence. The grand slam pushed the Golden Falcons ahead 9-4.

"Tyler has played really well in these first three games," Davis said. "He has been waiting for good pitches and putting himself in position to drive the ball with guys on base."

Charles B. Aycock added an insurance run with two outs in the inning when Narron scored on a wild pitch.

"We have to learn in to pitch ahead in the count and keep hitters off balance," said Proctor. "We fell behind too many guys and we walked guys in bad situations."

Jordan Quinn took over on the mound for the Golden Falcons and preserved the lead throughout the final four innings. The big left-hander struck out six batters and earned victory in relief.

C.B. Aycock visits North Lenoir on Monday, while Princeton (1-2) entertains Midway on Tuesday.
