Ki'Ana Williams was not going to be happy simply enjoying the moment that comes along with reaching the 1,000-point plateau. She had to make sure her teammates enjoyed it, too.
Williams spent much of the first half dishing off assists as Goldsboro routed Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference rival Greene Central 76-47 on Tuesday night.
The Cougars wasted no time taking advantage of Ram turnovers en route to a 19-7 lead after the first eight minutes. By halftime the lead had ballooned to 37-17.
Williams took over in the third quarter with six points and four assists in the period. With four minutes to play in the game, the standout reached 1,000 points with a driving bucket and left the game to a loud ovation from the home crowd.
For the game, Goldsboro (15-7 overall, 7-1 EPC) was paced by 17 points from Zearra McDuffie. Akeyanna Whitlor added 16 points and nine rebounds. Williams finished with 13 points and 11 assists. Millicent Kornegay and Victoria Williams added 10 points apiece.
Greene Central (9-13, 3-6 EPC) was led by Shonice Pettaway's 21-point effort. T.T. Pettaway added 13 points and six rebounds.
EW holds off CBA
PIKEVILLE -- Eastern Wayne used a 13-4 third quarter run to make a three-point halftime deficit disappear and pick up a 56-48 victory at county rival Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday evening.
Tiarra McIntyre led the Warriors (7-13 overall) with 19 points and Lindsey Frederick added 15 in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference contest.
Ivy Hartzell scored 12 points for the Golden Falcons. Camille Williams pitched in 11 and Courtney Sheeks had 10.
C.B. Aycock (4-19, 1-8 ECC) plays host to Southern Wayne on Thursday while Eastern Wayne (3-6 ECC) entertains Kinston.
Faith earns road win
FAYETEVILLE -- Faith Christian concluded its regular season with a 38-18 win at Cornerstone Christian on Tuesday evening.
Alyssa Hill scored 12 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Madison Caudle provided eight points, nine rebound and four steals and Lindsey Godwin added seven points. Rebecca Smith pulled down seven rebounds.
The Conquerors (10-6 overall) will host a Coastal Region 2-A playoff game on Thursday evening against an opponent to be determined today.
Eagles victorious
CALYPSO -- Rosewood picked up its third Carolina 1-A Conference win of the season by knocking off North Duplin 44-36 on Tuesday evening.
Christina Bruton scored a game-high 13 points for the Eagles and Paige Babb provided 12. Shantal Johnson chipped in nine and Rachael Kornegay had six.
Jessica Jones finished with 10 points for the Rebels (0-17 overall, 0-9 Carolina) and April Jones added nine.
Rosewood (5-15, 3-6) welcomes archrival Princeton on Friday while North Duplin travels to Spring Creek.
Panthers claw Gators
KENLY -- Spring Creek struggled from start to finish in a 56-29 loss at North Johnston on Tuesday night.
Melanquie DeVeaux scored 12 points for the Gators.
Ellen Wheeler finished with 16 points for the Eagles.
Spring Creek (3-12 overall, 3-6 Carolina) hosts North Duplin on Friday.
Boys' basketball
Eagles rally to win
CALYPSO -- Rosewood didn't falter in the face of a 14-point, third-quarter deficit and rallied for a 62-53 win at North Duplin on Tuesday night.
The Eagles outscored the Rebels 29-15 in the fourth quarter and were led by Cody Harris' 14 points. James Harris supplied 13 points, Jacquez Raynor had 11 and Spriggs chipped in 10.
Marcus Kornegay scored 20 points for North Duplin, while teammate James Kornegay added 12.
Rosewood (5-15 overall, 2-7 Carolina) entertains Princeton on Friday, while the Rebels (0-17, 0-9) visit Spring Creek.
AG charges past PHS
PRINCETON -- Princeton suffered a 57-44 setback to Carolina 1-A Conference foe Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday night.
Andre Nixon paced the Bulldawgs with 16 points and seven rebounds. David Gurganus had nine points. T.J. Wilson contributed seven points and Matt Williamson grabbed eight rebounds.
Kevin Peterson led the Chargers (12-10 overall, 8-1 Carolina) with 24 points.
Princeton (9-14, 3-6) visits Rosewood on Friday.
JV sports
* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro 69, Greene Central 46 -- Mike Sykes and Robert Kornegay each scored 14 points as Goldsboro topped Greene Central on Tuesday. Tyler Boseman added nine points in the victory.
* Boys' basketball: C.B. Aycock 44, Eastern Wayne 43 -- The Golden Falcons erased a 15-point deficit with 6 1/2 minutes to play and Shepard Whitfield scored the winning basket off a pass from Randall Fulghum on an inbounds play with two seconds to go. Tauris Wooten led Aycock with 15 points, Whitfield added eight and Jalen Williams chipped in seven. The Warriors were held to three points in the fourth quarter. The victory was the Golden Falcons first in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play.
* Girls' basketball: Faith Christian 33, Cornerstone Christian 16 -- Christina Powell and Christie Johnson pumped in six points apiece as the Conquerors won their regular-season finale. Powell dished out five assists and collected three steals. Elizabeth Weekes and Katie Watson contributed five and four points, respectively. Faith Christian concluded the year 9-1 overall.
* Girls' basketball: C.B. Aycock 29, Eastern Wayne 27 -- Elizabeth Fortner scored 10 points for the Golden Falcons. Tyesha Newsome contributed seven and Kayla Williams added five. Aycock (11-6 overall, 5-4 ECC) hosts Southern Wayne on Thursday.
Middle schools
* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 38, Northwood Temple 28 -- A 16-6 fourth quarter run helped Wayne Christian capture the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference championship. Katie Isenhower scored 19 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Eagles. Brooke Barfield added 13 points. Wayne Christian concluded the season with an 8-1 record.
