Tri-champions of the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference a year ago, Goldsboro used a 14-1 run to turn back North Pitt 55-38 on Tuesday evening.

Senior point guard Ki'Ana Williams pumped in a game-high 20 points and dished out eight assists for the Cougars, who improved to 6-2 at home this season. Akeyanna Whitlor contributed a double-double -- 10 points, 14 rebounds.

Goldsboro (13-7 overall, 5-1 EPC) held a slim one-point lead with less than three minutes remaining before halftime. Back-to-back baskets by Zeara McDuffie (12 rebounds) ignited an offensive surge that lasted until midway through the third quarter.

North Pitt's Kyera Forbes drained her third 3-pointer of the game to stop the run. The Cougars owned a comfortable 32-22 advantage at that point.

The Panthers (8-11, 2-5) connected on their first three field goals to start the fourth quarter. Forbes, who paced North Pitt's offense with 18 points, buried a pair of 3-pointers. But North Pitt could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way as Goldsboro swept the regular-season series.

Millicent Kornegay, plagued by foul trouble, and Victoria Williams finished with seven points apiece for the Cougars.

Goldsboro returns to action Friday at North Lenoir. Tip-off is 6 p.m. at Wooten Gymnasium.

EW falters late

Eastern Wayne trailed by just two points entering the fourth quarter, but endured a 40-33 loss to Wilson Hunt in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play Tuesday evening.

The Warriors shot just 9 for 20 from the free throw line and had just one player score in double figures -- senior Lindsey Frederick with 11 points. Tiarra McIntyre added eight points.

Eastern Wayne (6-12 overall, 2-5 ECC) entertains Beddingfield on Friday.

Saints go down

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne battled Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Wilson Beddingfield to the final whistle, but the Bruins claimed a 55-49 win Tuesday evening.

The Saints held a 46-45 lead with four minutes to play, but could not overcome the individual effort by Beddingfield forward Courtney Pittman. The talented post player tallied 25 points on the night including the team's go-ahead basket.

Shaniqua Clay added 14 points for the Bruins.

Lynnesha Leonard and Octavia Lee scored 13 points apiece for the Saints. Kayla Powell added 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked six shots.

The Saints (8-12 overall, 2-5 ECC) travel to Kinston on Friday.

Road unkind to Faith

GREENVILLE -- Faith Christian's quest for its seventh consecutive win was derailed with a 45-41 loss at Trinity Christian on Tuesday evening.

Alyssa Hill finished with a double-double by scoring 17 points and grabbing 17 rebounds to go with two assists and two blocked shots. Madison Caudle chipped in 12 points, 16 rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Lindsey Godwin added eight points.

Faith (9-6 overall, 7-4 Coastal Region 2-A) wraps up its regular season at Cornerstone Christian in Fayetteville next Tuesday.

Rams sink Vikings

SNOW HILL -- Shanice Pettaway scored 16 points, Jocelyn Conner added 11 and Greene Central defeated Tarboro 47-31 on Tuesday evening.

T.T. Pettaway contributed seven points for the Rams.

Greene Central (9-11 overall) improved to 3-4 in the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference and entertains North Pitt on Friday.

Eagles rally

Wayne Christian led visiting Northwood Temple for three quarters only to see that lead evaporate in the fourth. The Eagles fought back to claim a 41-37 victory in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play Tuesday evening.

Hanna Kaler led Wayne Christian with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Julia Oden provided seven points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Devan Isenhower added six points and six rebounds.

Kayla Kennedy had five points, while Kaitlyn Kosuda recorded five points and 10 rebounds.

The Eagles (12-4 overall, 7-3 CCC) visit Wilson Christian on Friday.

Chargers victorious

Share the wealth.

Wayne Country Day placed four different scorers in double figures and used its balance scoring to earn a 57-51, non-conference win over visiting Trinity Christian on Tuesday night.

Kim Martell led the Chargers with 19 points, Brooke Norris added 17 and Bridgette Briggs had 11. Catherine Ford chipped in 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

Wayne Country Day welcomes Kerr-Vance on Friday.

Eagles falter

Defending Carolina 1-A Conference champion North Johnston defeated Rosewood 47-32 on Tuesday evening.

Kaitlyn Conger led the Eagles with eight points.

Rosewood (3-15 overall, 1-6 Carolina) plays host to Spring Creek on Friday.

Boys' basketball

Vikings conquer CBA

PIKEVILLE -- Kinston rolled through Charles B. Aycock on its way to a 79-57 on the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference scene Tuesday evening.

Khendra Reid scored 16 points for the Golden Falcons and Molonza Hayes added 11.

Aycock (12-9 overall, 1-6 ECC) travels to Wilson Hunt on Friday.

Dawgs bite Rebels

CALYPSO -- Princeton placed three scorers in double figures and earned a 57-36 win at Carolina 1-A Conference rival North Duplin on Tuesday night.

Andre Nixon paced the Bulldawgs with 17 points and 10 rebounds and David Gurganus pitched in 14 points and nine assists. T.J. Wilson recorded 11 points, Matt Williamson had six and Kwame Corprew pulled down nine rebounds.

Marcus Kornegay led the Rebels with 11 points and James Kornegay added 10.

Princeton (9-12 overall, 3-4 Carolina) visits North Johnston on Friday while North Duplin (0-15, 0-7) travels to Ayden-Grifton.

Panthers pounce Eagles

North Johnston handed Rosewood a 56-31 loss in Carolina 1-A Conference play on Tuesday night.

Trevor Cox scored 12 points for the Eagles and Cody Harris contributed six.

Josh Best had 12 points for North Johnston.

Weather permitting, Rosewood (4-13, 1-5 Carolina) visits Spring Creek at 6:30 p.m. today to complete a suspended game.

WCS survives

Wayne Christian outlasted Carolina Christian 1-A Conference rival Northwood Temple for a 65-62 win on Tuesday night.

Luke Howell led the Eagles with 18 points and Colton Woods and Bradley Yelverton each added 12. Kyle Harrell finished with eight points. Justin Brathwaite pitched in six blocked shots.

Brachan Griffin paced Northwood with 18 points.

Wayne Christian (7-11 overall, 6-7 CCC) travels to Wilson Christian on Friday.

* Girls' basketball: C.B. Aycock 28, Kinston 24 -- Elizabeth Fortner scored eight points and Kayla Williams added seven for the Golden Falcons. Brittany Moore led Kinston with nine points. Aycock (10-5 overall, 4-3 ECC) visits Wilson Hunt on Friday.

* Girls' basketball: Trinity Christian 34, Faith Christian 27 -- Christina Powell scored 11 points for Faith which lost its first game of the season. Charity Spencer provided nine points. The Conquerors (8-1) conclude their season at Cornerstone Christian next Tuesday.

Middle schools

* Boys' basketball: Greenwood 56, Dillard 27 -- Jaelen Johnson scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the T-Birds claimed the Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division I championship. Jalin Spruill added 11 points, four rebounds and four assists. Quavlis Holloman provided 10 points and four assists. Shahim Muhammad chipped in five points and three assists. Greenwood concluded the year 14-0 overall and 8-0 against Division I opposition.

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Christian 44, Northwood Temple 30 -- Gregory Johnson finished with 13 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal for the Eagles. Dylan Smith chipped in 11 points, six steals, six assists, five rebounds and a blocked shot. Tyler Lacerda added 11 points.

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 46, Northwood Temple 31 -- Brooke Barfield poured in a season-high 28 points and Nikki Fitzmorris pitched in 11 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and two blocks. Katie Isenhower contributed 13 rebounds and Kaylee Wallace had 12 boards.
