PIKEVILLE -- Courtney Sheeks scored a game-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds, and Camille Williams added 16 points as Charles B. Aycock earned a 59-35, non-conference win over visiting Rosewood on Tuesday night.

The Golden Falcons (3-11 overall) scored 15 unanswered points during the first quarter and led 23-5 after the opening period.

The Eagles (2-8) pulled to within 29-19 at the half thanks to a 13-0 run to close the second quarter.

Sheeks scored 12 of her 22 points during the third quarter as Aycock opened up a 48-24 advantage.

"We did a much better job tonight going to the basket and crashing the offensive boards," said Golden Falcons head coach Carrie Reynell. "Courtney had a great night on the boards and many of her points came from her working hard on the glass.

"Camille also did a great job in the post for us tonight. As a team, we had everyone playing their role successfully. That made a huge difference for us tonight."

Christina Bruton led Rosewood with 10 points.

Aycock entertains Wilson Beddingfield on Friday, while Rosewood visits Arendell-Parrott Academy today.

Conquerors beaten

Faith Christian could not overcome a stagnant first half in their 34-29 loss to Bethel Christian Academy on Tuesday night.

The Conquerors only managed four points in the second period. By halftime the Trojans had built a 22-9 advantage.

In the second half Bethel played keep away and continued to make plays on the defensive end of the floor. During several possessions in the third quarter, head coach Sarah Fulcher encouraged her team to rest on offense by simply dribbling around the perimeter and running the clock.

The strategy worked.

Trailing 30-18 after three quarters, Faith Christian made a furious comeback, but the patient Trojan offense held on long enough to preserve the win.

Lindsey Godwin paced the Conquerors with a game-high 15 points. Alyssa Hill added six points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Rebecca Smith scored five points.

Bethel was led by 10 points from Courtney Harrell. Kendall Worthington added eight points.

Faith Christian (3-4 overall) entertains Berean Christian next Tuesday.

WCS cruises

RALEIGH --Wayne Christian picked up a 56-11 Carolina Christian 1-A Conference win at Trinity Academy of Raleigh on Tuesday night.

Hanna Kaler led the Eagles with 16 points and eight rebounds and Hanna Kaler contributed 14 points, seven steals and six rebounds. Carly Hightower chipped in 12 points, four assists and three steals and Devan Isenhower had six points and six rebounds.

Wayne Christian (6-3, 2-2 Carolina) hosts Cresset Christian at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Chargers run wild

Wayne Country Day had four different players score in double figures as it pounded Waccamaw Academy 77-4 on Tuesday evening.

Bridgette Briggs scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Brooke Norris and Mack Thompson each scored 14 points. Catherine Ford had 13 points and eight assists. Kim Martell provided 11 points.

The Eagles (12-1 overall) entertain No. 2-ranked United Faith on Friday night.

Rebels falter

CALYPSO -- Tearra Ammons pumped in a team-high nine points as North Duplin finished its non-conference schedule with a 51-28 loss to Lakewood on Monday evening.

Angelica Favela and April Jones contributed six and five points, respectively.

The Rebels (0-8 overall) begin Carolina 1-A Conference play at North Johnston on Friday.

Wrestling

Warriors pin Bruins

Eastern Wayne kept its dual-team postseason aspirations alive with a 48-34 victory over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Wilson Beddingfield.

The Warriors (5-10, 2-1 ECC) received key victories down the stretch from 125-pounder Austin Helm and 140-pounder Zach Hahn. Helm pinned the Bruins' Brandon Edmundson late in the second period, while Hahn also earned a second-period fall.

Roderick Ayers (112 pounds), Josh Hahn (112), Corbin Harris (119), Chris Winship (130), Cody Britt (152), Logan Wicks (189) and heavyweight Zach Myers each claimed an individual win.

Eastern Wayne returns to action Saturday in its own Battle at Little Big Horn, a day-long invitational tournament which begins at 9 a.m.

Hawks edge EW

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir outlasted Eastern Wayne for a 71-68 non-conference victory on Tuesday night.

Jeniri Cyrus scored a game-high 24 points for the Warriors, while Will White added 15.

Juel Bizzell paced the Hawks (8-4 overall) with 20 points, while Chris McPhail pitched in 17.

Eastern Wayne (2-9) begins Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play on Friday at Southern Wayne.

Eagles prevail

RALEIGH -- Luke Howell and Kyle Harrell each scored 10 points and Wayne Christian defeated Trinity Academy of Raleigh 49-33 on Tuesday evening in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play.

Colton Woods provided nine rebounds and Harrell had seven.

The Eagles (4-5 overall, 3-1 CCC) host Cresset Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.

WCDS wins in OT

Wayne Country Day survived overtime before pulling out a 72-68 victory over visiting Waccamaw Academy on Tuesday night.

Waccamaw's Chris Richardson drained a three-quarter court 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.

Reco McCarter led the Chargers with 23 points and 18 rebounds and Floronta Wynn added 18 points.

The Chargers host No. 1-ranked United Faith of Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

JV sports
