Rosewood's wrestling team dropped a close 34-33 decision to Rocky Mount and earned a 66-18 victory over Southwest Edgecombe in a home tri-match on Tuesday evening.
Chris Lane (103 pounds), Zach Behrend (112) and Greg Cavenaugh (140) each earned wins via forfeit against Rocky Mount. Dillion Guss (145) and Joshua Holmes (152) picked up falls and Paul Atkinson (285) earned a major decision.
Behrend, Lane, Matt Coley, Cavenaugh, Jacob Roberts, Jonathan Rudolph, Taylor McGill and Aaron Keefer each recorded points for the Eagles through forfeits at 103, 112, 135, 145, 160 171, 189 and 215 pounds respectively against Southwest Edgecombe.
Scott Pate (130), Guss and Holmes (152) each tallied falls in their respective matches.
Rosewood lost at four different weight classes over the course of the evening due to forfeits.
"Needless to say, it's very disappointing to lose because we're not filling the weight classes," said Eagles head coach Bill Edmundson. "I am also disappointed in our effort tonight as a whole. I think our guys know that we did not give our best effort against Rocky Mount and we took a good hit tonight. With that said, as long as we have learned something from this experience, I can live with the loss."
Rosewood hosts Ayden-Grifton at 7 p.m. on Dec. 30.
