 James Lawrence Weaver, 78, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.

James was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Wayne County to the late Gertha and Clara Thelma Denning Weaver.

He retired from Cooper Bussmann in Goldsboro.

James lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community. He served his community many ways as a fireman with the Jordan’s Chapel Fire Department and as a member of the Mill Creek Masonic Lodge #125 A.F. & A.M. James also served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Jordan’s Chapel Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Jordan’s Chapel Baptist Church, followed by a service to celebrate James’ life at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Ray Smeltzer and the Rev. Michael Weaver officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

James is survived by his wife 54 years, Beverly Hensley Weaver; brothers, Russell Weaver, Carl Weaver and wife, Faye, Roy Weaver and wife, Ellie, Donald Weaver and wife, Joyce, and Charles Weaver and wife, Annette; sisters, Hazel Ruth Ballard and Alma Doris Weaver; and several nieces and nephews he loved very much.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Dorothy Weaver, Glenn and Hilda Weaver, Howard Wright Weaver, and Anita Powell Weaver.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given in James’ memory to Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, Fla., 33607.
