James O’Quinn “Big Jim” Boykin Sr., 88, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Big Jim was born in Johnston County, N.C., Aug. 7, 1930, to the late Alvin Vernon Boykin and Flora Ann Pittman Boykin.

He served proudly in the United States Air force during the Korean Conflict.

Following his stint in the Air Force, he was the supervisor of the paint shop on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Afterward, he was the founder of the legendary Jim’s Signs located in Goldsboro, which is currently and proudly owned and operated by his two sons.

Big Jim enjoyed flying, loved racing and had a generous heart. He helped many people along the way. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A service to celebrate Big Jim’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Johnny Pike officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Big Jim is survived by his of wife of 70 years, Elizabeth Langley Boykin; children, Donna Stroud (Nick), Debbie Moore (Glenn), Mark Boykin (Lori) and Tim Boykin (Lee Ann); grandchildren, Alan Marks (Ashley), Hope Hill (Simon), Amanda Bill (David) and Quinn Boykin; great-grandchildren, Rose Marks, Turner Lewis, Cash Hill, Rachael Bill (Randy), Logan Bill and Noah Bill; and great-great-grandchildren, Easton Smith and Maverick Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church, 5975 U.S. 70, LaGrange, N.C., 28551.
