WALDA JEAN TALTON

Sept. 6, 1960-May 31, 2018 

Walda Jean Talton, 57, Pikeville, completed her journey home Thursday, May 31, 2018, to the welcoming words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” 

Walda was born Sept. 6, 1960, to Melva Jean Gurley Thompson and the late Clement E. Thompson. 

Walda was a graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School in 1978. She continued her education at Wayne Community College, where she obtained her life calling to serve and care for others as a nurse.

She started her career at Wilson Medical Center, where she worked for 27 years, then transferring to Longleaf Neurological of Wilson, where she was currently employed. 

Walda was a member of Pike's Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She was also a past member of Fremont Volunteer Rescue and a current member of Fremont Rescue Auxiliary and North Carolina EMS Area 4, where she served as director. 

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Donna Jean Talton of the home; two brothers, Joey Thompson of Pikeville and Thomas Thompson and wife, Joy, also of Pikeville; nephew, Cody Thompson; three uncles, Walter Gurley, Harold Gurley and wife, Dorthy, and Woody Gurley and wife, Ruby; a special aunt, Faye and uncle, Roger Rose; two stepchildren, Casey Talton and Bridget Hann; three stepgrandsons; along with special friends, Kent and B.J. Reeves, Ricky and Betty Lancaster and Chuck and Candy Schudar; as well as all the employees of Longleaf. 

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 3, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 3 p.m. at Pike's Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. 

Arrangements are by Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
