Katie Strickland Harrelson, 91 of Sneads Ferry, passed away Friday afternoon at her home.
"Miss Katie" will be missed by many for her generosity, her smile, and her cooking. She loved baking cakes, pies, and cooking collards for her beloved friends at First United Methodist Church of Sneads Ferry. She was a daily morning fixture at the Hardee's in Sneads Ferry, where she shared laughs, stories, and solved the world's problems with her many close friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Sneads Ferry, with pastors Ira Smith and Alan Gibson officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at Onslow Memorial Park.
Katie was preceded in death by her husband, D.D. Harrelson; son, Gene McKeel; parents, Oscar and Mildred Ellis Strickland; sister, Margie Britt; and her brothers, Gordon Strickland, Melvin Strickland, and Ray Strickland.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Powell and husband, Orlando, of Sneads Ferry; stepson, Ed Rackley and wife, Kathy, of Goldsboro; stepson, Danny Harrelson of Hickory; sisters, Faye Franklin and husband, Bill, of Goldsboro; and Joan Jones of Roanoke, Va.; brother, Merrill Strickland and wife, Dorothy, of Goldsboro; grandson, Adam Powell and wife, Julie; granddaughter, Tennille King and husband, Jerry; and great-grandchildren, Colt Powell and Jenna Powell. She is also survived by her special friend, Darlene Allen and her children, Charlie and Tyler; and Lola Yopp and Hattie Yopp.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 305 Lakeside Dr., Sneads Ferry, N.C.
