Robert Joseph "Bobby" Collier, 88, passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at Wayne UNC Hospital.

Bobby was born in Pikeville, N.C., Nov. 17, 1929, to Samuel David Collier and Annie Mae Stith Collier.

He was preceded in death by Annie Lou Collier, his wife of 59 years.

While attending Pikeville School, Bobby biked a paper route to buy his first car.

In the 1040s, he served in the United States Navy, and worked for Western Electric.

In the 1950s, Bobby transitioned from selling Chevrolets to founding what later became Collier Motors AMC.

He had many customers, who loved him for his winsome personality, his excellent mechanic skills and his fair business practices.

Bobby was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, and attended Faith Free Will Baptist Church.

A service celebrating Bobby's life will be held Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Freedom Baptist Church, 300 Country Day Road, Goldsboro. Pastor Jonathan Smith and the Rev. Walter Sloan will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. and following the service at the church.

Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Pikeville Cemetery.

Bobby is survived by his children, Patricia Collier of Mount Olive, Robbie Collier and wife, Ruby, of Goldsboro, Kevin Collier and wife, Rebecca, of Kinston and Douglas Collier and wife, April, of Raleigh; sister, Linda Collier Moore and husband, Ronald, of Cary; and 11 grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bobby was preceded in death by an infant son; his brother, Samuel Duane Collier; and sister, Joyce Collier.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Freedom Baptist Church, 300 Country Day Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
