Louise Best Parks, 88, LaGrange, peacefully passed away on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Jackie Louise Best Parks was born on Nov. 4, 1929, to the late Chester and Julia Best of the Coker's Mill area. She was a homemaker and housewife for years before going to work at the Sutton Shop and Men's Den in LaGrange. She worked there from 1969-1989. Louise was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for more than 70 years and was a past member of the United Methodist Women group and the choir at Bethel.

Louise enjoyed quilting and made baby quilts for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as others in the community. She was well known for her pecan pies and would make a dozen or more pies at Christmas and give them away to family and friends. As long as her health allowed, she and Gordon enjoyed square dancing with friends, and she made most of her own square dancing outfits.

A service to celebrate and honor Louise's life will be held Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Louise is survived by her husband of 69 years, Gordon Parks; daughter, Jackie Parks Overbee (Adrian) of Goldsboro; sons, Jesse Parks (Alice Royal) of Goldsboro and Jimmy Parks (Janice) of LaGrange; four grandsons, Chad Parks of Jacksonville, Fla., Michael Gordon Parks (Laura) of LaGrange, Stephen Parks of Jackson, Miss., and Charlie Royal of Goldsboro; three granddaughters, Tina Overbee Fritts (Mike) of High Point, Ashton Parks Byrd (Bert) of Kinston and Lizzie Royal of Denver, Colo.; eight great-grandchildren, Ty, Tanner and Marlee Parks of Lake Park, Ga., Michaela and Cooper Parks of LaGrange, Cole and Jesse Byrd of Kinston, and Reed Fritts of High Point; two stepgreat-granddaughters, Ella and Sara Fritts of High Point; sister, Emily Best Waters of LaGrange; brother, Chester Best Jr. (Patsy) of Goldsboro; along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Best of Goldsboro.

Family and friends will be received Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Parks, 4679 Bryan-Hardy Road, LaGrange.
