DR. WILLIAM K. PRUETT SR.

Dr. William Kelly Pruett Sr. (also known as Bill, W.K., Daddy, GaGa, Dear), Goldsboro, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A service to celebrate Dr. Pruett's life will be held Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Fulkerson officiating.
The family will greet friends Sunday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
Interment will be Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, "Dear" Billie Jean; daughter, Margaret Malinda Pruett Hardy and husband, Phil; son, Dr. Bill Pruett Jr. and fianceé, Lia Wu of Cary; and his beloved grandchildren, Phillip Hardy and wife, Karsan, and Emily Hardy Barbour and husband, Justin.
Dr. Pruett was born in Bristol, Tenn., the son of Fred Fanning and Nettie Irene Smith Pruett, Dec. 14, 1930.
Soon after his high school graduation at Bristol Virginia High School, he enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Following a first-term military service, he accepted a position as a civilian auditor with the United States Air Force Auditor General, and worked as a certified auditor for the next 31 years.
In 1968, he moved with his family to Goldsboro to serve as the resident auditor for the Auditor General at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
Dr. Pruett was a longtime member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Goldsboro, where he served as a deacon, usher and Sunday school teacher.
His educational achievements include a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Masters of Business Management and a Ph.D. in business education.
He also had the designation of certified internal auditor with the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Following his retirement from the U.S. Civil Service, he began a new career as an adjunct professor of business (mostly economics) with Mount Olive College in Goldsboro, and also taught with St. Leo College and North Carolina Wesleyan College.
