Albert E. "Al" Johnson, 81, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at his home.

Al was born in Wayne County Dec. 10, 1936, to the late Luther Johnson and Sophia Collins Johnson.

Al was the owner of Johnson Construction Co. and Johnson Farms and co-owner of Elite Fashions Inc. in Goldsboro, along with his wife, Evelyn.

He had served as scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 92, and was involved at the Boys Club in Goldsboro.

Al was a Cold War veteran of the United States Navy, serving in Iceland.

Al was a founding member of his church, Goldsboro Wesleyan Church, now The Hydrant Church, where he served numerous terms as vice chairman and treasurer of the local board of administration, along with service as on the board of the North Carolina East District of Wesleyan Church.

The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Al's life in the chapel, with the Rev. Tim Fox and the Rev. Mike McAuley officiating. A private burial will be held Saturday at Wayne Memorial Park.

Al is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Evelyn Hill Johnson; several special nieces and nephews; and many others who called him "Uncle Al."

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edward Johnson and J.B. Johnson.
