Virset Mooring Carter, 94, Gastonia, peacefully passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, in Goldsboro while visiting her granddaughter.

Born in Wayne County Sept. 1, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Marcellus Mooring and Smithie Darden Mooring.

A service to celebrate Virset's life will be Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kem Lancaster officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Virset is survived by her son, Douglas Carter and wife, Brenda, of Dudley; daughters, Carolyn White of Gastonia, Nancy Dawson of Goldsboro and Frances Vernatt and husband, Joe, of Goldsboro; brother, Clayton Mooring and wife, Mildred, of Elm City; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther T. Carter; daughter, Betty Jean Artis; son, David A. Carter; four brothers; and two sisters.
