Charles Franklin Kirk Jr., born Sept. 21, 1929, and married Sept. 21, 1949, passed away at home surrounded by his family Sept. 16, 2017.
He was a native of Salisbury, N.C., and son of Charles Franklin Kirk Sr. and Beatrice Goggin Kirk.
He retired from Southern Bell Telephone Co. after 36 years of service, and the remainder of his life was dedicated to helping others in need.
He loved his Goldsboro Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and was an active member, filling many roles.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 68 years, Sarah Elaine Gillis Kirk; three sons, Kenny, Tommy and Martin Kirk; one daughter-in-law, Ginger Kirk; three grandchildren, Jason Kirk, Emily Kirk and Caitlyn Kirk; three stepgrandchildren, David Pendleton, Becky Doudiken and Danny Pendleton; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. at Goldsboro Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1000 E. Mulberry St. in Goldsboro. There will be no graveside service.
Although flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may be directed to Goldsboro Seventh-Day Adventist Church, c/o Anita Wilson, 1000 E. Mulberry St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
