A service to celebrate the life of Martha Carol Powell Thornton will be Monday, May 22, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, with visitation to follow. At other times, family and friends are being received at the home of Greg and Tracy Rose, 200 Garner Chapel Road, Mount Olive.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the funeral home toward final expenses would be appreciated, and so would donations to Garner Chapel Baptist Church.
Carol, who passed away Thursday afternoon, May 18, 2017, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, was 55 years of age. She had been employed in several area factories, including Burlington Industries, and had been a nursing assistant with a home health agency.
Carol is survived by a daughter, Miranda Lane of Faison; and Miranda's father, Scott Lane of Winston-Salem, who remained a special friend; her mother, Martha Millard Powell Merritt, and step-father, Clifton Merritt, both of Mount Olive; six siblings and their spouses, Linda P. Kabler of Mount Olive, the Rev. Ken and Kay Powell of Calypso, Patricia P. and David Turner of Mount Olive, David and Cindi Powell of Dudley, James and Vickie Powell of Princeton, and Bruce and Becky Powell of Dudley; and several nieces and nephews.
Carol's father, Kenneth Powell, preceded her in death.
