REV. DWIGHT REYNOLDS SMITH

Oct. 18, 1935-Oct. 11, 2016

The Rev. Dr. Dwight Reynolds Smith left this world to be with Jesus Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Reynolds was a beloved husband, son, father, grandfather and friend, whose love for life and others was apparent to all who met him.

Reynolds was born in Wayne County Oct. 18, 1935, one of six children, to Edna Butts Smith of Goldsboro and the late Robert Lee Smith Sr.

Reynolds was devoted to his loving wife, Delia Carlisle Smith, for 60 years. The unconditional love demonstrated through their years together took them on a life voyage that started with their marriage March 16, 1956.

Reynolds worked with DuPont for more than 30 years, and was ordained in 1970 by the Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

These significant events prepared them for their extensive 46-year ministry in the Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Their love for each other served as a prototype for their children, as well as all who knew them. Most importantly, Reynolds loved his Savior, the Lord Jesus, with all his heart, and he loved God's word.

Reynolds organized Coker Memorial Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, and later served four other churches during his ministry, most recently as pastor of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

After Reynolds had been pastoring for 30 years, he became the regional director for the Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Denomination, and served in that position for 10 years.

He had also served on various boards and committees, including the Minister of Council Group for more than 30 years.

Reynolds was a member of the board of trustees at Heritage Bible College for 30 years, and for his service, the college honored Reynolds with an honorary doctorate degree.

A funeral service to celebrate Reynolds life and give witness to his faith in Jesus Christ will be held Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, at 7 p.m. at United In Christ Church, with the Rev. Dr. Don Sauls and the Rev. Tom Dorman officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at United inChrist Church and immediately following the service. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, in Snow Hill Cemetery.

In addition to his wife and mother, Reynolds is survived by his sons, Stevie Smith and wife, Katrina, of Goldsboro and Scott Smith and wife, Lori, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Crystal Ezzell and Carlyle Smith; stepgrandchildren, Malori Price and Parker Mellott; and a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Ezzell.

He is also survived by his brothers, Doug Smith and wife, Mae, Jennings Smith and Colin Smith and wife, Freida, and sister, JoAnne S. Sauls.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lee Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
