George Benton Butts Jr., 80, Goldsboro, peacefully passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016.
George was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Wayne County to the late George Benton Butts and Grace Vinson Butts.
George was an active member of Jason Presbyterian Church, and retired from E.I. Dupont following 34 years of service.
George was truly a kid at heart. With a sure, confident voice and a smile that was infectious, George had a way of connecting with people, especially children.
George possessed a way of making everyone feel special, and quickly adopted people into his family circle. He loved life and the many blessings life offered.
George enjoyed being out in the country, loved a good show or musical and especially loved spending Sunday afternoons watching a good ole NASCAR race.
A graveside service to celebrate and honor George's life will be held Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at 3 p.m. from Mewborn Family Cemetery, with Scott Hardy officiating.
George is survived by his wife and best friend of 61 years, Loretta Mewborn Butts; sister, Rose Butts Champlain; a great-nephew George thought of as a son, Hunter Reese; a niece George thought of like a sister, Vickie Corbett; along with a large extended family George truly loved.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Dean Butts, and two siblings, Jean Walker and Archie Ray Butts.
George's family will receive friends Thursday following the graveside memorial service, and at other times, the family will be at the home.
