SUZANNE DAVIS BUNN

Suzanne Davis Bunn, 82, passed away at Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, N.C., July 19, 2016, after a long Illness.
Born Dec. 8, 1933, in Kinston, N.C., to Roland and Blanche Davis of the Moss Hill community of Lenoir County, Suzanne graduated from Moss Hill School, Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C., with a Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in middle grades.
Her teaching career included Webster High School in Webster, N.C., Meadow Lane School in Goldsboro, N.C., John Small School in Washington, N.C., and Swain County Schools in Bryson City, N.C., where she taught seventh grade math and science in Bryson City Elementary School for 25 years -- in the same classroom.
Having grown up in a family that was active in farming in Lenoir County, Suzanne was an International 4-H Youth Exchange (IFYE) student to Switzerland (1955) during her senior year at Meredith College. Her trip included stays with four different farm families in rural Switzerland.
Her IFYE experience opened many travel and leadership opportunities, resulting in a three-year term on the board of the National IFYE Association.
After retirement from the Swain County Public School System in 1988, Suzanne volunteered with the county court system as a Guardian ad Litem for neglected children and with the county and regional library systems, where she served as chairperson of both the Marianna Black Library, Bryson City and Fontana Regional Library (Swain, Jackson and Macon counties) for better than a decade.
Following both their retirements, Suzanne and husband, Donald, traveled extensively throughout the world from 1988 through 2008, visiting in 48 different countries.
Preceding her in death were her sons William Alexander Bunn "Bill" and Michael Carr Bunn "Mickey," and her parents, Roland and Blanche Davis.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clarence Donald Bunn of Cypress Glen Retirement Community of Greenville, N.C.; her brother, Roland B Davis Jr. "Buddy" and wife, Judith of Midlothian, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Suzanne's life will be held at Bryson City First Baptist Church in Bryson City, N.C., 28713, Saturday, July 23, at 1 o'clock.
The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service.
Interment will follow the service in Swain Memorial Park of Deep Creek Valley in Swain County, N.C.
Arrangements will be handled by Crisp Funeral Home.
