Benjamin Joseph “Ben” Wade, 91, Ayden, peacefully passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016.
Ben was born Sept. 5, 1924, in Wayne County to the late Joseph Prentice Wade and Sally Miller Wade.
Ben’s wife of 64 years, Gwen Pelletier Wade, preceded him in death Aug. 12, 2014.
Ben proudly served his country with the United States Navy. He was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Randolph.
In early years, Ben farmed, and later worked with E.I. Dupont, where he retired following 32 years of service.
A true outdoorsman, Ben enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.
Ben was a member of LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church.
A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 2 p.m. at LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church, with pastor Ronnie Hobgood officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Ben is survived by three daughters, Mary Wade Gresham of Ayden, Sue Wade Smith and husband, Don Smith, of Goldsboro and Kim Wade Kennedy and husband, retired United States Air Force Col. Joseph C. Kennedy, of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Blake Bright of Goldsboro, Jake Kennedy and wife, Taylor, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Tyler Kennedy of Dallas, Texas, and Ashley Kennedy of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one great-granddaughter, Kendall Paige Kennedy; and two sisters; Dorothy Lockamy of Kinston and Sally Ruth Scott of LaGrange.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home of LaGrange.
