SIDNEY LEROY CARTER
Died Feb. 19, 2016
As seen through the eyes of his grandchildren, LeRoy was a man of kindness, generosity, inspiration, devotion, role model, intelligent, able to do anything and "always ready to go."
He departed this life Feb. 19, 2016, leaving a legacy of love, a zest for life and great storytelling. He was committed to leaving the world better than he found it.
LeRoy now joins his wife of 60 years, Josephine Anderson Carter, and grandson, Alec L. Robinson, who predeceased him.
He is survived by two daughters, JoRoyce Robinson (Frank) of Richmond, Va., and Karen Reeves of Fort Mill, S.C.
Grandchildren include Ian Robinson (Martha), Jourdan Roberts (Jonathan) and Barron Reeves (Allison), and three great-grandchildren, Simone, Evelyn and Alec C. Robinson.
A native of Goldsboro, N.C., LeRoy was the youngest of eight children.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and completed a degree in electrical engineering.
He pursued a career in the textile industry, ultimately a vice president for Springs Mills for 19 years, and then retired to his own company, Conso.
LeRoy always built a strong community of friends and family wherever he lived. Over the last 12 years, he called Aldersgate in Charlotte his home.
His passions there included the woodworking shop, the greenhouse, vegetable garden and serving as the go-to "IT Guy" for its many residents. Countless computers, operating systems, emails and printers worked seamlessly due to his knowledge and generosity of time.
He was blessed by many friends, most especially Mary Jane Littlejohn, Joe Potter and his buddies in the Liar's Club.
A celebration of life will be held in the chapel at Aldersgate, 3800 Shamrock Road, Charlotte, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, with family visitation after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Aldersgate Assisted Living Fund or Harris Hospice Unit at Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital.
