MINNIE KATHERINE WILLIAMSON BENSON

Minnie Katherine Williamson Benson, a longtime resident of Six Churches Plaza in Kinston, passed away peacefully April 23, 2015, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Joyce Benson Heath and her husband, Charles, of Pink Hill; her son, Jesse James Benson and wife, Kathy, of Kinston; granddaughter, Angela Brown and husband, Rusty, of Pollocksville; granddaughter, Alicia Lapas and husband, Adrian, of Goldsboro; great-grandson, Brandon Brown and wife, Jessie, of Trenton; great-grandson, John Lapas of Goldsboro; great-grandson, Brody Brown of Pollocksville and fiancee', Caroline Banks; great-granddaughter, Sarah Lapas of Goldsboro; and great-great-grandson, Hunter Brown of Trenton.

Minnie was the oldest of eight children, the daughter of Richard and Fannie Williamson of the Warsaw area.

She had to leave school after the 8th grade to help on the family farm.

She married James Alfred Benson Oct. 25, 1941.

Minnie served as a Sunday school teacher at Gum Branch Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church for 29 years.

When she moved to Kinston in 1985, she began attending First Free Will Baptist, where she attended until her health declined.

While at Six Churches, she organized the weekly bingo games and the weekly church service Saturday nights.

She sold Avon, and was always helping churches sell their barbecue or chicken plates.

In recent years, as her health declined, she was blessed to have Gloria Mumford as caregiver and friend.

The family would like to thank everyone at Kitty Askins, Greendale Forest, Lenoir Memorial Hospital and Vernon Dialysis Unit for the loving care they gave. In addition, the family would like to thank her Six Churches community and her many friends, who had been encouragers to her.

The funeral will be Monday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at Community Funeral Home in Beulaville, with visitation to follow. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brock Cemetery in Sarecta.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like for memorials to be made in her name to Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
