James Edward Allen, 83, Goldsboro, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Edward was born in Wayne County Sept. 30, 1930, to the late Charles Garfield Allen and Mary Elizabeth Jackson Allen. He was married to the late Pauline Creech Allen.
Edward retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation and was a member of Providence United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2014, at Providence United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends following the service in the church parlor.
Edward is survived by his son, Brent Allen and wife, Rhonda, of Goldsboro; son-in-law, Don Taylor of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Ashley Womble and husband, Brent, Chris Allen and wife, Michelle, and Duane Allen; and two great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by a dear friend, Mavis Swinson.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Taylor; granddaughter, Whitney Shea Taylor; and brothers, Charlie, Howard and Roy Allen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to the Whitney Shea Taylor Scholarship Fund, c/o Providence United Methodist Church, 202 Providence Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
