MOUNT OLIVE -- Floyd Carrell Jr., 81, passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 4, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Born in Leggett, Texas, he was a retired military man, having served in the United States Army. Upon his retirement, he had attained the rank of master sergeant, E-8, and had also been a Green Beret.
His second career was employment with a water corporation, where he was a chemical supervisor.
He was a member of the American Legion, and was a Masonic brother and a Shriner.
He was a member of Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
Mr. Carrell is survived by his wife, Lou Ellen Herring Carrell of the home; a son, James Boyd Carrell of Mount Olive; a daughter, Barbara C. Goodson and husband, Brad, of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Brett Miller and Chad Miller both of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Michelle Carrell of Pennsylvania; four stepchildren, Bonnie Kennedy of Mount Olive, Mark Harris and wife, Polly, of Albertson, Connie Houston and husband, Jerry, of Tennessee and Robbie Whaley and wife, Carol, of Wilson; 10 stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
His first wife and the mother of his children, Doris Bishop Carrell, preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Mr. Carrell will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Mark Hobbs and the Rev. Bob Fussell, and with visitation following. Committal and burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Devotional Gardens of Warsaw, at which time full military honors will be rendered.
Friends and family are being received at the residence as well.
