ROBERT KENT HOOD

Died July 16, 2012

CAPE CARTERET -- Robert Kent Hood, 47, Cape Carteret, passed away peacefully Monday, July 16, 2012, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Falling Creek Baptist Church in Goldsboro, with the Rev. Carney Hedgepeth officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hood was a veteran of the North Carolina National Guard.

A fireman since age 16, Kent served at several different departments, and was a former captain at Emerald Isle Fire Department.

He was also active in the Masonic Lodge, and was a past master at Seaside Lodge No. 429.

Another favorite passion of his was wood carving. He was an accomplished and award-winning carver, and was proud to belong to the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild.

He was preceded in death by his nephew, Matthew Hood.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Heather Trigleth Hood of the home; a daughter, Caitlin Nicole Hood of the home; his parents, Ted and Doris Hood of Grantham; a brother, Brent Hood and his wife, Elizabeth, and their son, Parker, all of Mount Olive; paternal grandparents, Horace and Edna Hood of Grantham; and his maternal grandmother, Lois Williams of Grantham.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, Swansboro chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild (for children's programs), P.O. Box 89, Harkers Island, N.C., 28531.
